FIFA Imposes Transfer Ban on Richards Bay FC

Richards Bay FC have been handed a transfer ban by FIFA as a result of a longstanding payment dispute.

Last June, Tanzanian defender Abdi Hassan Banda left Richards Bay to join Motsepe Foundation Championship club, Baroka FC. His decision to leave the KwaZulu-Natal outfit was driven by limited playing opportunities and issues with unpaid wages.

Five months later, the FIFA Dispute Resolution Chamber ordered Richards Bay to pay Banda between R500 000 and R800 000 within a 45-day period.

Now, as per a recent ruling, FIFA has implemented a transfer ban on the club:

“A ban from registering new players internationally has been implemented by FIFA on the Respondent [sic]. The registration ban will remain active until the amount due is paid, and for a maximum duration of up to three entire and consecutive registration periods.”

Additionally, the South African Football Association is urged to impose an immediate ban on the Natal Rich Boys, one that will prevent them from registering new players at a national level.

The club has not yet commented on the ruling.
